I am tired of buns, are there any other classical styles for very long hair?

I have hip length hair, about 2 or 3 feet from root to tip. Aside from bangs it's not clipped into any style, just long and straight. The hair itself is thin and fine.

I'm getting tired of putting my hair into a bun every day, with the only changes being the positioning of said bun or what I hold it with. I've tried a French twist but my hair is so long and heavy it won't hold, even with one of those special combs. Braiding is impossible unless someone else does it for me, which is generally not an option. And just leaving it down or in a ponytail only means my hair will tangle and snag all over, so I don't want to do that.

I'm not big on cute or "fun" looks. I'm an opera singer for heaven's sake -- we are supposed to look severe.

Are there any styles I can do beyond just pulling everything into a bun? I'm fond of Gibson girls and Geisha styles, to give an idea of my taste. Heck, were it feasible I'd do a Marie Antoinette 'do every day -- my hair is certainly long enough.

I dont know how you will feel when i suggest this- but its with good reason- cut it sholder length!

Many of my friends have done that and they look so great- its a new, fresh look. It gives them a new confidence and people notice them more.Get a frinnge if you want aswel!

If you dont want to cut it, because its so long, its harder to take care of and more products are needed.

Maybe just sweep it back and let loose hair fall as they may!

I know what you are going through my hair is ALWAYS!! in a bun- but i have curly hair and im scraed it will go frizzy!

BE adventerous!

Good luck :D
